Keep on Blogging
Steve Shu, who gave up blogging for a year, is back at it. He explains why in an interesting post.
Steve, you didn’t mention that it is also addicting.

Sorry Ford, to be a pain in the rear….but…..
addicting or addictive?
Although I am just a total newbie, I can understand simultaneously your addiction and your fatigue. The challenges of blogging regularly can seem daunting. However, a daily blog is apparently standard…

Peter:
Addictive, thanks.
I don’t know many business bloggers who post daily and I am not sure there is a standard. I have heard from several people that twice a week is needed to hold an audience.
Does anyone else have data on post frequency and blog impact?

Couple thoughts:
First, doing blogging right, like any other serious endeavor, requires hard work. And, like everything else, work alone is not enough…you’ve got to be smart about it as well. In other words, check your statistics related to each post – I’ve been looking closely at mine and it seems that AT MINIMUM I need to be posting once a week, but twice or three times a week would be better.
However, quality is supreme – I’ve actually stopped following a couple of blogs because the author’s value add started declining or, worse, s/he started posting trivia, just to get something up.

I would concur that if your goal is to maintain a good readership that posting at least two times per week is required. Personally, I probably can’t do it anymore.
I say that two times are needed at least because I am still of the belief that a significant number of readers neither use email notifications nor newsreaders to know when there are new blog posts. Many people simply visit the blogsite from time to time using regular bookmarks. If the website is static too many times when they come back, they’ll just stop coming.
