The option to outsource order taking can be a little worrying for you are going to entrust your company to an unknown support company which will be handling you star possession; your clients. But not comes good if you don't want to risk once in a while. They can be of big help taking care of your orders 24/7 and even 365 days of the year ensuring you the high Return on Investment.

Ian:

Excellent point. Help wanted ads can also be a tip. So, if a company is hiring additional people in its facilities department, it is probably planning new facilities of interest to architects and engineers.

Hi Ford,

Thought this was an excellent and succinct summing up of the key options - really cut through the clutter.

Perhaps an extension of the Networks option is that for some event-driven services you can get early warning of the event yourself if you know what to look for.

For example, a company that announces a merger probably needs some HR consulting a few months down the line - and my experience is that they usually don't line those things up before the announcement. So a professional scanning the press for that sort of new can be alerted to an upcoming client need and take action (like contacting the firm directly, or looking for referral routes in).

A friend of mine does marketing consulting for technology startups. He says that 6 months after a tech startup moves to a business park then "sure as eggs is eggs" they realise they need to bring some revenues in and start looking around for marketing help. So he watches the movements into the incubators/business parks in the area.
